Congratulations Mattawan, Michigan Little League
Pequannock girl's magic ride ends in 6-2 championship loss
Our girls of summer had an unbelievable run in their 2006
softball all-star season. They came up just short of
winning the Little League Softball World Series in Portland Oregon. We are very
proud of each and every one of these girls and the coaches for a fantastic job
in bringing a tremendous amount of pride and excitement to our town and Little
League organization. It was
truly incredible for our entire community to follow this team through winning
the District 2, Section 1, and New Jersey State softball championships as
well as the championship of the Eastern Region of the United States.
These
girls played their hearts out as they played brilliantly as a team
throughout the Little League World Series. It was nothing short of amazing
to watch our Washington Park girls play their Little
League games on national television. The magnificent run has ended on the field,
but Pequannock Little League and our town will always remember how great you
girls were in playing the game of softball, and how proud we are of what you
accomplished in the summer of 2006.
Pequannock Little League sends their sincere congratulations to the
players, coaches, and general membership of the World Champions, Mattawan
Little League, from Mattawan, Michigan. Your Girls Majors all-stars are a great team
and deserving of the title, World Champions.
Our Pequannock team will be coming home from their long
journey Thursday night, and will arrive at Washington Park via police escort about
8:30. Come out to Field 1 on Thursday night and join Pequannock Little League in
welcoming our champions home. The stars are sure to be exhausted, but
they'll probably have just enough energy left to sign a few autographs.

Pequannock advances to championship game
Nielsen tosses 4-hitter against Tennessee in 5-1 semi-final
victory
The Pequannock Girls Major League all-stars began their Little
League season in April at Washington Park. They have now reached the pinnacle of
Little League, the World Series Championship game. They play Wednesday night for
all the marbles against the undefeated Central Region of the United States
champions, the Mattawan Little League all-stars, from Mattawan, Michigan. What
these thirteen Pequannock girls and three coaches have accomplished is truly remarkable.
They set their sights on a very lofty goal -- to be the World Champions. They
are just one game away from achieving that goal.
In the semi-final game against Morristown Little League,
Morristown, Tennessee, Pequannock jumped out to an early lead and never looked
back. In the top of the first inning, Jamie O'Rourke, Kayla Lombardo, and Deanna
DeVito all singled and scored. Samantha DeVito had a big RBI double in the
inning. Tennessee bounced back with a run of their own in the bottom of the
first inning.
In the second inning, Pequannock added two more runs on
back-to-back doubles by Jamie O'Rourke and Dana Nielsen as Alyssa Senatore and
O'Rourke scored.
Jamie O'Rourke lead the way on offense, going 3-for-3, scoring
two runs and had an RBI. The DeVito twins, Deanna and Samantha each had two hits
and each knocked in a run. Raquel LaManna, Tiffany Palatucci, Nicole Hausleben,
and Alyssa Senatore all had hits in the game.
The Pequannock defense played solid, errorless ball behind Dana
Nielsen who was terrific again in the circle. Nielsen earned her third victory at
the Little League World Series, striking out four with just one walk.
Raquel LaManna gets the ball tonight for Pequannock in the
Championship game at 9:30 est.

Today is an off day our "East" team at the Little League
World Series.
It is a good time to mention that our 11-year-old softball
all-star team on won the New Jersey State Championship last week, sweeping
West Depford in the state tournament. Congratulations to the players and
coaches on a job well done in becoming the tenth team in Pequannock Little
League history to win the state championship.

Fichtler goes yard as Pequannock wins 7-4
Bats still cookin' as Jersey girls pound 11 hits and Pequannock goes
undefeated in pool play
Pequannock jumped out to an early 3-0 lead in the top of the first
inning. Deanna DeVito had the big hit of the inning, ripping a two-run
double which drove in Jamie O'Rourke and Dana Nielsen. DeVito came in to
score on Rocki LaManna's RBI.
The feisty District 4 champion team from Cedar Mills LL, Beaverton Oregon came to play in
front of the big home town crowd. Little League allows the winning team from the
host district to participate in the World Series even though they did not
win their respective state or region tournaments. Cedar Mills was not
intimidated by our undefeated, Eastern Region champions from 3000 miles
away. The District 4 champs stormed right back to take a 4-3 lead after one
inning.
Pequannock tied the game in the second at 4-4, as Dana Torhia lead off
the inning with a single and came around to score on Jamie O'Rourke's RBI
single.
In the third, after LaManna walked, Ali Fichtler stepped to the plate and
blasted a 3-2 pitch over the left field fence for a huge two run home run to
take the lead, 6-4. After no home runs have been hit in the Little League
World Series in five years, the power hitters from Pequannock have belted
three home runs in four games. As if the huge, two run home run was not
enough, Fichtler made the defensive play of the day in left field, hauling
in a hard smash by Cedar Mills' first batter in the bottom of the third
inning.
After scoreless fourth and fifth frames, Christi Jenisch smacked a big,
one-out single. Pinch runner Nicole Hausleben scored an important insurance
run on Kayla Lombardo's single.
Kayla Lombardo had another huge game with the stick, going 3-for-4 on the
day. For the World Series, Lombardo has been red hot, batting at a .625 clip
(10-for-16), with five runs scored and five RBI.
Raquel LaManna went the distance, allowing four runs, but only one earned
run. LaManna yielded only three walks and fanned five in earning her second
win of the World Series Tournament.
Our girls get a much-deserved day off tomorrow, after finishing pool play
with a perfect 4-0 record. As the number one seed from Pool A, Pequannock
will face the still-to-be-determined second place finisher from Pool B on
Tuesday in the semi-final round. The game will be nationally televised on
ESPN2 at 7:00 est. The winner of the semi-final contest will play on
Wednesday for all the marbles, the Little League softball WORLD
CHAMPIONSHIP, which ESPN2 will also carry.

Pequannock comes back to win 13-7
Deanna DeVito's three-run homer highlights a huge offensive team
effort
Our Pequannock all-stars showed their tremendous heart and
resiliency as a team in today's win over a very strong team from Texas.
Pequannock fell behind 5-0 early, yielding three runs in the top of the
first inning, and two more in the second inning. There was no thought of
quitting as our girls showed their New Jersey toughness as they bounced
right back with five runs of their own in the bottom of the second inning to
knot the score at 5-5.
Pequannock seized the momentum created in the big second
inning rally and exploded with eight big runs in the bottom half of the
third inning to jump out to a 13-5 lead.
The Southwest champions, Elgin Little League, from Elgin
Texas did not give up. They scored two runs in the top of the fifth to bring
the score to 13-7.
Dana Nielsen closed the door in the sixth with a
three-up three-down inning to seal the win. Nielsen earned her second
victory at the 2006 World Series, pitching the complete game, six-hitter
over Texas.
The big comeback began in the bottom of the second as Raquel
LaManna, Dana Tochia, and Alyssa Senatore all walked and scored. Jamie
O'Rourke reached on an error. Dana Nielson singled, diving in a run.
Kayla Lombardo continued her hot-hitting, ripping a two-run single to tie
the game.
As coach Joe LaManna said in Albany, "We can hit." The
Pequannock girls, in their green uniforms (sounds funny, doesn't it), showed
that they are an offensive force in the World Series, sending twelve batters
to the plate in the third frame, scoring eight runs on six hits. Nicole Hausleben poked a one-out single. Alyssa Senatore followed with a base on
balls. Jamie O'Rouke's bat remains on fire as she singled in Hausleben with
the go-ahead run. O'Rouke also continued to be a terror to the opposition on
the base paths, as she stole second base, advanced to third and then to home passed
balls. Nielsen walked, and Kayla Lombardo smoked a bullet off the left field fence,
inches from her second World Series home run. Deanna DeVito stepped to the
plate and simply crushed a fastball way over the left field fence for a
three-run homer to extend the Pequannock lead to 11-5. Pequannock was still not done
scoring as Ali Fichtler singled, Sami Casapulla walked, and Alyssa Senatore
singled, driving in Fitchler and Casapulla to cap the huge inning.
Our Pequannock sluggers pounded eleven hits in five turns at
the plate at the World Series. Jamie O'Rourke had a hit, an RBI and scored
twice. Dana Nielsen went 2-for-2, scored twice and drove in a run. Kayla
Lombardo and Deanna DeVito had two hits apiece. Ali Fichtler was
1-for-1 with a run scored. Nicole Hausleben singled and scored. Deuces were
wild for SS Alyssa Senatore as she had great game against Texas. Senatore went 2-for-2, with
two runs scored, and two RBI.
Pequannock is now an incredible 3-0 at the Little League
World Series. They are the only undefeated team in Pool A. Their
next game is tomorrow, at 5:30 est. against a District 4 team from the host
town in Oregon. Little League allows the host team to play in the
tournament, even though they did not win their respective state or region
tournaments.
At this point, our girls are assured a berth in the
semi-finals on Tuesday after a day off on Monday. It is highly likely that
they will play the second place team from Pool B on Tuesday, at 7:00 est.
This game will be nationally televised on ESPN2.

Girls Majors World Series Tournament: Pequannock 10, Canada 0
Lombardo goes deep in big win over Canada
Kayla Lombardo had a huge game for Pequannock at the World
Series as Pequannock defeated the Canadian National Champions, 9-0 at Alpenrose
Stadium in Portland, Oregon. Lombardo blasted a solo shot over the left
field fence in the top of the fifth inning and finished going 3-for-4, scoring
three runs and two RBI,
on a single, double, and a home run. Home runs
hit over the fence do not happen very often in 12U softball, even at the World Series.
In fact, it was the first home run in the Little League World Series in five
years. Kayla
Lombardo knocked one out of the park in the Eastern Region Tournament in Albany, and
topped it with huge home run on the big stage of the Little League World Series.
Lead off batter Jamie O'Rourke singled and scored three runs including a very important first
inning run on Samantha DeVito's RBI to set the tone for a big day for our Jersey Girls.
Pequannock tacked on two more runs in the third inning, aided by
several walks by the Canadian hurler. Lombardo's dinger in the fifth inning
extended the lead to 4-0.
In the top of the sixth, Pequannock sent twelve batters to the
plate. Raquel LaManna lead off with a single and advanced to second base on an
error. Dana Torchia drove in LaManna with an RBI single up the middle. Alyssa
Senatore and Jamie O'Rourke walked to load the bases. Dana Nielsen then blew the
game open with a clutch, bases-clearing double to the gap in left center,
driving in three runs. Lombardo followed with a single to drive in Nielsen to
extend the lead to 9-0. Samantha DeVito and LaManna walked to load the bases
again. Tiffany Palatucci was hit by a pitch to drive in the final run of the big
six-run outburst.
Raquel LaManna went the distance on the hill, tossing the
complete game, three-hit shutout with four strike outs as Pequannock goes to 2-0 in the World Series. LaManna was backed with spectacular defense throughout the contest including a
perfect throw to the plate by Jamie O'Rourke in the fourth inning as catcher
Kayla Lombardo applied the tag to nail the Canadian runner attempting to score,
preserving the shutout.
Pequannock plays Elgin Little League, Elgin, Texas tomorrow
(8/12) at 12:45 est. This is a very big game as Texas has accounted for 11 of
the last 14 Little League Softball World Series titles with Midway Little
League, Waco, Texas winning each of the 11 titles.

The Road to Portland
Our Girls Majors all-stars are obviously on a great run in
representing our town and the state of New Jersey as the Eastern Region
Champions of the United States of America at the Little League World Series
in Portland, Oregon. There are sure to be memories that will last a lifetime
for these members of our Little League family.
On the business side of things, each family of the
players and coaches will spend between $8,000 and $10,000 for the expenses
for the five days in the New Jersey State tournament in Cape May, the eight
days in the Eastern Region Tournament in Albany, and now the big trip to
Portland, Oregon for the World Series, August 8th through August 16th.
Little League (Williamsport) does not cover any expenses, other than the plane
trip and accommodations for the team members and three coaches in Portland.
The family members are completely on their own for hotels, food, gas, car
rentals, plane
fare etc. over these extended tournaments.
We are taking donations to help offset some of the high
costs our Pequannock and Pompton Plains families are incurring during this
chance of a lifetime. If we can have a large portion of our community each
kick in a small amount ($25 to $50, more if you'd like), it would go a long
way to assisting our LL friends on their remarkable journey. We are also
seeking corporate donations to help defray some of these expenses. Please
check with your place of business about making a donation.
If you would like to contribute the Little League World
Series expense fund, kindly make out a check payable to Pequannock Little
League, and mail it to:

Girls Majors Eastern Region Tournament: Pequannock 4, Rhode
Island State
Champions 0, UNITED STATES EAST REGION CHAMPIONS!!!
PEQUANNOCK GIRLS GOIN' TO PORTLAND!
Our girls are going to the show, the BIG SHOW, the LITTLE
LEAGUE WORLD SERIES, the real thing. As Eastern Region Champions, our
Pequannock girls will be participating with teams
from around the globe in Portland, Oregon. They have a chance, a good chance
if you've watched them play, to be crowned the best 12U Little League
softball team in the world. This very well may be the farthest any
Pequannock team of any age has ever advanced in any sport at the national
level.
In the championship game, Pequannock used aggressive base running to push across
four runs on just one base hit against a tough Rhode Island squad. Pitcher Dana
Nielsen
was simply too tough for the Rhode Island hitters, as she was brilliant on the hill, pitching
a complete game shut
out.
Congratulations to Coaches Nielsen, LaManna, and
Lombardo, as well as all of the girls who played fantastic ball throughout
the Eastern Region tournament. Pequannock finished the tournament in Albany,
New York 6-0, outscoring the state champion opposition 48-0.
Our champs get a short break from tournament play until
Tuesday, when they pack their bags and equipment and fly to Portland,
Oregon for the World Series beginning August 10th. ESPN traditionally
carries several of the games from Portland, so with a little luck, we will
be able to catch the pinstripers in action on TV at the World Series. GO GET
'EM GIRLS, the Pequannock faithful are behind you all the way!!!
For more pictures of the Eastern Region Champs in
actions, click the "All-Star Pics" button on the left. We still have more
pictures to add. They will be added as soon as possible. Please check back.
