Girls 10's All-Star State Tournament: Hammonton 4, Pequannock 2
By Brian Spring
The Pequannock all-star season ended last night in Pequannock with 4-2 loss to Hammonton.
After giving up three first inning hits and some walks that produced three runs for Hammonton, pitcher Taylor Tabakman settled down and made the rest of the game a tight defensive battle. She was aided by good defensive plays, including assists by third baseman Carly Hausleben (3), shortstop Kellyann McClain, and a running center field catch by Dana Scillieri. Tabakman recorded seven strikeouts in her six innings of work and one assist to first baseman Alyssa Lobosco.
The Pequannock girls were able to produce four hits throughout the game, two by Carly Hausleben that included a fifth inning bunt with an RBI, a double in the fifth by Taylor Tabakman that produced an RBI, and a sixth inning pop to shallow right field by Caroline Landon.
The girls finished their all-star season by winning District 2 and Section 1 titles and finishing as one of the three best teams in the state. This was only accomplished due to the tireless efforts of our coaching staff, including manager John McClain and coaches Joel Troast and Amy Tabakman. Their devotion, teaching abilities, and the fact that they made the summer fun for the girls made our team a great success. These girls have some great memories of their all-star summer!
Hammonton takes on Robbinsville tonight at 7:00 p.m. on field 1. A win tonight by Hammonton would force another game tomorrow night, and a win by Robbinsville tonight would earn the state championship.
Congratulations to Hammonton on a good win, and we wish Hammonton and Robbinsville good luck in the state finals!

Girls 10's State Tournament: Pequannock 11, Ridgefield
Pequannock stays alive in states By Brian Spring
The Pequannock girls will see more August state softball action as their bats came alive last night to beat and knock Ridgefield out of the state tournament. The Pequannock girls jumped out to a 6-0 lead in the first inning on singles by Carly Hausleben, Kellyann McClain, Taylor Tabakman, Rachel Pierson, Kaitlyn Natoli, Jonnalyn McClain and Caroline Landon. Alyssa Lobosco was credited with a sacrifice flyout in the inning which scored one of the six runs.
Ridgefield held Pequannock to one run in the next three innings. In her second at-bat of the game as the first batter in the third inning, Lobosco launched a line drive past the Ridgefield center fielder and recorded a home run as she beat the infield relay to the plate. Tabakman stroked a long single to center field in the third, and Jennifer Sigler and Kellyann McClain singled in the fourth.
In the fifth inning, Dana Scillieri hit a single and scored a run as she was pushed around the bases on singles by Natoli, Landon and Taylor Cucci.
In the final inning Kellyann McClain, Tabakman and Pierson all recorded singles and crossed the plate, pushed along on singles by Natoli and Jonnalyn McClain.
Offensive notes for Pequannock: Taylor Cucci was 1-for-4, Jennifer Sigler was 1-for-1, Kellyann McClain was 3-for-4, Taylor Tabakman was 3-for-4 with an RBI, Rachel Pierson was 2-for-3 with three RBI's, Dana Scillieri was 1-for-1, Alyssa Lobosco was 1-for-2 with two RBI's and a sacrifice out, Kaitlyn Natoli was 3-for-4 with two RBI's, Jonnalyn McClain was 3-for-4 with an RBI, and Caroline Landon was 2-for-3 with two RBI's.
Defensively for Pequannock, Jonnalyn McClain pitched five full innings, recording ten strikeouts and only giving up one hit. Taylor Tabakman came in as the sixth inning reliever and had some early control problems before striking out two. McClain closed out the game with a fine defensive play on a grounder which was scooped up by first baseman Alyssa Lobosco who threw out the runner to a first base covering Taylor Cucci.
Pequannock now takes on Hammonton Little League tonight (Wednesday) at 7:00 p.m. Hammonton lost last night to Robbinsville by a score of 9-2.

Girls 10's State Tournament: Robbinsville 10, Pequannock 1
By Brian Spring
The Pequannock girls were defeated under the lights at Washington Park last night by a tough Robbinsville team. The Robbinsville girls jumped out to a 6-0 first inning lead after stroking three singles and two doubles before a bunt putout, a strikeout and ground ball putout to first by pitcher Kellyann McClain. McClain recorded one strikeout in the first.
Pequannock's defense held tough, keeping Robbinsville scoreless in the second and third innings. Robbinsville was able to record two runs in the fourth on a combination of a single, a walk and a few stolen bases. Robbinsville again scored two runs in the fifth inning on a single, a hit batsman, and stolen bases. Fifth inning outs were a ground ball to pitcher Taylor Cucci who threw out to first, a line drive caught by shortstop Carly Hausleben, and a nice center field flyball catch by Jennifer Sigler. Cucci recorded two strikeouts in her four innings.
Pequannock's offense was able to record one run in the fourth inning on a slap single by Carly Hausleben. She was able to advance thanks to a Kellyann McClain ground ball putout to the Robbinsville shortstop and a walk issued to Rachel Pierson. Hausleben then stole home after advancing to third and hustling in on a pitch that got away from the Robbinsville catcher.
Offensive notables for Pequannock: Carly Hausleben was 2-for-3 with her slap single and a single in which she beat a throw to first, and Kellyann McClain was 1-for-3 with a first inning double rip to right field. These were the only hits in the game for Pequannock who faced hard, accurate pitching by Robbinsville pitcher Hannah Olshevski.
Pequannock takes on Ridgefield Tuesday, August 5th, at 5:30 on Field 1. Robbinsville faces Hammonton in the night game of this double-elimination State tournament.

Boys Majors State Tournament: Bordentown 14, Pequannock 3
Pequannock's 12-year-old all-stars championship run comes to an end undefined undefined By Bill Maier
Pequannock was defeated by Bordentown last night in Bergenfield by a score of 14-3. After starting pitcher Cole Maier navigated through the top of the first unscathed, Pequannock would jump out to an early lead in the bottom frame. Anthony Scillieri singled home Michael Leva to open the scoring. After an infield hit by Nick Stasiak, an error allowed Scillieri to come around and score to give Pequannock a 2-0 advantage. Danny Ryan continued to swing the bat well, reaching on a hard infield single that bounced off the pitchers' glove. With Ryan at first and Stasiak at third, the two perfected a double steal, bringing home the third Pequannock run.
In the third, with Pequannock clinging to a 3-2 lead, Bordentown's bats caught fire. The locals seemed helpless as a parade of Bordentown players circled the bases. Sixteen batters and eleven runs later, Pequannock had seen their 3-2 lead evaporate into a 13-3 deficit. Pitching for Pequannock were Cole Maier, Matt Amore and Michael Leva.
After Bordentown's big inning, the locals were unable to generate any additional offense. They received curveball after curveball, keeping them off balance and off the scoreboard.
It has been a tremendous run for this group of boys as they have represented Pequannock admirably. They have taken home District banners in every year of play, have won the sectional tournament twice and won the State tournament last year as 11-year-olds.
Many thanks to the great number of Pequannock fans that came out to support the team last night in Bergenfield and over the last few years.
And lastly a great big thank you to the boys on this team that combined to give us some great summer memories. Thank you for the sportsmanship that you have shown no matter of the outcome.
Pequannock's 12 year-old All-Stars are: first baseman - Nick Stasiak, pitchers and second basemen - Anthony Scillieri and Cole Maier, short stop and pitcher - Michael Leva, third basemen - Steven Spatucci and Danny Short, catchers - Joe Fierro and Joe Koetters, outfielders and pitchers - Vince Fierro and Matt Amore, outfielders - Danny Ryan, Jesse Roszkowski and Matt Blahut.

Things looked good for Pequannock early as Cole Maier led off the game with a towering home run to right-center, giving his team an early 1-0 lead. In the third inning, with Maier on at first and Pequannock down 3-1, Anthony Scillieri smashed a two-run homer to right field, tying the game at three. Girls 10's Section Tournament: Pequannock 4, Morristown National 0 - Section Champions
Tabakman achieves perfection as Pequannock wins Section crown
By Brian Spring
The Pequannock girls won the Section 1 championship by beating a tough Morristown National team tonight in another nail-biting pitchers duel.
Taylor Tabakman threw a PERFECT GAME for our girls, facing and retiring 18 batters in six innings. Tabakman's six innings included 13 strikeouts. In four of her strikeouts, she threw expertly disguised changeup pitches on third strikes to completely baffle the Morristown batters.
Tabakman had excellent defense behind her in her perfect outing. After striking out the side in the first and registering a "K" to the first batter in the second, Morristown batter Alexa Gvniet lined a shot to first baseman Kellyann McClain to record the second out of the inning.
The next four batters were strikeouts for Tabakman. In the fourth, Morristown batter Lauren Champi hit a groundball to shortstop Carly Hausleben who fired the ball to McClain at first to record the first out. McClain then caught the second out of the inning, a pop foul by Morristown's Meg Donlin.
Tabakman recorded strikeouts for the next three Morristown batters into the fifth inning. The third out of the inning was a sharp groundball back to the mound which hit off of Tabakman's glove into the waiting backup glove of Jonnalyn McClain who promptly threw the batter out at first base to end the inning.
The sixth inning saw the final two strikeouts by Tabakman, and the game ended on a pop out to Kellyann McClain.
Morristown pitcher Morgan Katona threw another excellent game for the Nationals. Katona recorded 15 strikeouts, two walks and four hits in six innings.
In the first two innings, Alyssa Lobosco had the only hit for Pequannock, a single to the right side.
The third inning saw all three Pequannock batters fanned. In the fourth, Carly Hausleben walked, and stole second and third. She was sent home with a well-placed Rachel Pierson sacrifice bunt.
Kristen Aikey was walked as the first batter in the fifth and then stole her away around the bases for Pequannock's second run.
The sixth inning was started by a Taylor Tabakman single to center field. Carly Hausleben then reached first base on a bunt with an errant throw. This scored Tabakman as Hausleben hustled her way to third base. She was bunted home by Rachel Pierson before Morristown pitcher Katona retired then last two batters in the top of the sixth.
Players, coaches and parents crowded field one as both teams were acknowledged for their play and Little League pins were handed out. The Pequannock Section 1 champs then took their victory lap with their well-deserved banner to the loud cheers of all the fans.
Congratulations to the girls on their victory, and to Manager John McClain and coaches Joel Troast and Amy Tabakman for their hard work in getting our girls game ready.
Now on to the state tournament!

Boys Majors State Tournament: Pequannock 3, Berlin Boro 0
Pequannock shuts out Berlin to advance to State finals.
By Bill Maier
The Giants had their catch in last year's Super Bowl, now Pequannock has theirs. Michael Leva made a game-ending, had-to-see-it-to-believe-it catch as Pequannock moved within one win of consecutive state titles.
Cole Maier threw a 79-pitch complete game, striking out eight and allowing no walks. Anthony Scillieri hit a first inning home run and generated all the runs Pequannock would need en route to a 3-0 victory over Berlin Saturday night in Bergenfield.
Pequannock didn't waste any time getting things started. Maier would lead off the game with a booming single that scurried to the fence in right-center. With one on and one out, Anthony Scillieri continued his hot hitting. The second baseman belted a two-run homer deep into the right-center field stands to give Pequannock an early 2-0 lead. After Vince Fierro beat out an infield single, Danny Ryan would join the party. The clutch-hitting center fielder turned on a 3-2 fastball and laced it down the left field line for a double. Fierro, motoring around the bases would score all the way from first to make the game 3-0.
In the bottom of the inning the first batter of the game for Berlin would lace a hard ground ball between first and second. Nick Stasiak made a diving stop of the ground ball and nearly nabbed the runner at first. With the first runner of the game aboard for Berlin, Maier would keep the Pequannock momentum by recording the next three outs on strikekouts. Sharp defensive plays by Pequannock included a running catch by Vince Fierro in left field, a line drive catch by Danny Short at third and a 5-4-3 inning ending double play going from Steven Spatucci to Anthony Scillieri to Nick Stasiak. Pequannock would continue to threaten throughout the game registering eleven hits though six innings.
With the score still frozen at 3-0 in the bottom of the sixth, Berlin would finally penetrate Maier's armor. The lead off batter doubled to left for their first base hit of the game. After the second batter reached base on an error, Berlin would bring the tying run to the plate with two on and nobody out. The next batter lined a shot into right field. Matt Blahut charged the ball, sliding on his knees to make the catch. The right-fielder almost turned a great play into a tremendous one by firing the ball to third to try and nail the runner attempting to tag. Berlin got a lucky bounce as Blahut's throw hit the base runner, who would have been out by ten feet.
Berlin still had hope however with runners on second and third with one out. Maier would make quick work of Berlin's clean-up hitter, striking him out on four pitches. With two outs and the tying run still at the plate, it was Leva's turn to shine. The next Berlin batter popped the Maier offering up in the air. As the ball floated over third base and headed towards the stands in foul territory, Steven Spatucci, playing third, and Vince Fierro in left field began to converge on the ball. Enter Michael Leva. The sure-handed shortstop, sprinted across the field and in full extension caught the ball as he crossed over the foul line, landing just short of the fence. The catch, arguably one of the best grabs in Little League history, ended the game and has Pequannock one win away from another State championship.

Pequannock comes from behind to win in State tournament opener By Bill Maier
Everybody knew Anthony Scillieri was starting the game. Who knew that he would end it too?
Scillieri, who started on the hill for Pequannock, crushed a 3-0 fastball deep into the Bergenfield night to give his team a come-from-behind, 5-2 walk-off victory over Bordentown on Friday.
Scillieri pitched brilliantly through 5 1/3 innings leaving the game with the score tied 2-2. Cole Maier nd Matt Amore relieved Scillieri and kept the game tied over the next three frames when Pequannock would finish it. Pequannock had several opportunities to close out the game but couldn't muster a run until the bottom of the eight.
Joe Koetters got things started in the bottom of the eight with a leadoff single. Steven Spatucci followed suit and lined a base hit into center. With two on and two outs, Scillieri redirected a 3-0 offering, launching it deep into the right-center field forest to give Pequannock a 5-2 walk-off victory.
Pequannock will play Berlin Boro at 8:00 p.m. tonight (7/26) in Bergenfield.
Girls 10's Section Tournament: Morristown National 4, Pequannock 0
By Brian Spring
Pequannock opened up sectional tournament play with a loss to Morristown National in a pitcher's duel. Morristown National pitcher Morgan Katona pitched a complete game in which she recorded 15 strikeouts and six walks. The lone hit of Pequannock's offense was a single by Carly Hausleben in the third inning.
Taylor Tabakman pitched an excellent game for the Pequannock girls, recording ten strikeouts in six innings. Tabakman gave up a double to the first Morristown batter of the game, then did not yield a hit for the rest of the game. Three of her ten strikeouts were through her masterful use of a changeup.
The Pequannock defense recorded five infield putouts during the six innings, including a first inning catch by Jonnalyn McClain off of a line drive deflection from first baseman Kellyann McClain's glove, a third to first putout by Alyssa Lobosco and McClain, and a single putout by K. McClain to end the third inning.

Pequannock Girls District 2 Champions! By Brian Spring
The Pequannock Girls 10's all-stars rolled to their District championship after another convincing win over the PLR Girls on Monday night at the Clifton Eastern field. After a first inning groundout to the third baseman by Carly Hausleben, Taylor Cucci and Kellyann McClain were walked. Taylor Tabakman then singled, driving in the first run of the game. Soon after K. McClain stole home, and after a walk issued to Alyssa Lobosco, Rachel Pierson singled and drove in a run. Walks were then issued to Dana Scillieri and Jonnalynn McClain. McClain was thrown out at third on a Caroline Landon single.
The girls were not done with their first inning hits, however. Hausleben singled her second time up in the inning. After walks to Cucci and K. McClain, Tabakman roped a double and drove in two more runs. Lobosco then singled before Pierson ripped a ground ball past the second baseman which rolled to the fence in right field, rounding the bases for a hustling home run. Pequannock ended the first inning with 13 runs.
The only hit of the second inning was a single by Carly Hauselben. J. McClain, Landon and Jennifer Sigler all put the ball in play, but three good groundball plays by the PLR girls ended the offensive inning for Pequannock.
The Pequannock girls managed to get one run across the plate in the third after Lobosco singled and Kaitlyn Natoli singled. Melissa Spring then drove the lone run of the inning in with a single.
Pequannock managed to get five runs across the plate in the fourth inning on singles by Hausleben (2), Cucci, Natoli, and a screaming double by Tabakman to left field which brought in her fourth and fifth RBI's for the game, along with walks issued to K. McClain, Lobosco, and Hailey McGlynn.
Pequannock pitchers Jonnalyn McClain, Taylor Cucci and Alyssa Lobosco combined to pitch a two-hitter. Taylor Tabakman came in and struck out the last batter in the fouth to end the game. The four pitchers each ended up with a strikeout for the game.
Congratulations to the girls on a job well done and to manager John McClain, and coaches Joel Troast and Amy Tabakman for teaching and motivating the girls to do their best!

Boys 10's District Tournament: Pequannock 12, West Milford American 2
By Ronald Hogan
Sunday afternoon saw the Pequannock all-stars face West Milford American at Anderson Field in Bloomingdale. Both teams needed the win to continue on in the District 2 tournament.
Pequannock started early with Dylan Steed drawing a walk after working the pitcher to a full count. With Dylan dancing off first base, the pitcher threw two wild pitches and Dylan was quickly standing on third. Mike Desenzo grounded out to the second baseman, but it was a perfect at-bat because Dylan scored from first base. Anthony Dombrowski also drew a full count walk and with Dan Jachera up, the West Milford pitcher threw a wild pitch and Anthony was on second. Dan then hit a single and now runners were on first and third. Another wild pitch and Anthony scored with Dan going all the way to third. Jachera scored on another wild pitch and Brandon Davis then smacked a hard grounder to the pitcher, who backhanded the ball and barely got Brandon at first. Pequannock owned a 3-0 lead.
Corey Bond started for Pequannock and West Milford used two walks and an error to score two runs. Corey and the defense settled down and retired the next batters. The lead was now 3-2.
In the second, Adam Curich drew a four-pitch walk. After one out, Andy Carlon had a bunt single. Tommy Ackershoek came in as a pinch runner for Carlon, but the West Milford got Dylan Steed and Mike Desenzo out to halt the Pequannock offense. The score was still 3-2. After the tough first inning, Corey settled down and struck the first batter out. The next West Milford hitter then hit a liner to left field and Tyler Aug ran the rawhide down easily for the second out. "007" then struck out the next hitter for a 1-2-3 inning. West Milford was still down by one.
The third inning saw Pequannock start off with a booming double by Tommy Crooks. Anthony Dombrowski walked again and Pequannock had two men on and no outs. Tyler Aug flied out, but it was good enough for both runners to advance. Derek Nelson followed his coach's instructions and hit the ball to the right side of the infield and Pequannock had its fourth run. Tommy Ackershoek was put in as a pinch hitter. He hit a slow rolling ground ball that the pitcher couldn't get to in time and Tommy reached first safely and another run scored. Pequannock now had its fifth run and now needed to hold West Milford. Derek Nelson provided two-thirds of the defense in the bottom of the third by throwing out two hitters. Bond managed another strike out and Pequannock got its wish. No runs and a three run lead.
Mike Van Duyne walked to start off the inning. Mike Desenzo and Tommy Crooks each manufactured singles to knock in two more runs. Dan Jachera had a second hit to raise their lead to 8-2. With the lead up to six runs, Corey got the first man to strike out. The next batter singled, but the third batter also struck out. The next hitter hit the ball to left field and it looked like it was going to land for an extra base hit. Mike Van Duyne made a diving backhanded catch while tumbling near the foul line. He quickly raised his glove hand to show the umpire. Pequannock fans let out a thunderous cheer after seeing the highlight of the game.
The fifth saw Adam Curich start things off by reaching first safely after a high throw to the first baseman. Corey was the next batter and Curich was off to second when the catcher bobbled the throw. Corey then laid down a picture-perfect bunt and while he was barely thrown out, Adam reached third. Then Bond's battery mate, Andy Carlon came to the plate. A ringing double by Andy scored Pequannock's ninth run. Liam Corbutt was the next hitter and that he did by singling Carlon home for the tenth tally of the game.
Pequannock used a walk, a single, a hit batsman and a couple of wild pitches to add to their lead. Now it was 12-2. Liam Corbutt came in to pitch the sixth inning, but was only allowed 20 pitches. After walking the first batter, Liam got the next two batters to ground out and strike out. With an 0-2 count, Liam gave up his pitching duties to Tommy Ackershoek, who threw a one pitch strike out to end the game.
Despite the hot and humid conditions, Pequannock's fans strongly showed their support for this outstanding team. The players and coaches again, say, "Thank you for supporting us!"
The next game is Monday night at 7:00 p.m. against West Milford National at Anderson Field in Bloomingdale.

Boys 10's District Tournament: Pequannock 12, Wayne American 1
By Ronald Hogan
The hot night was a sign of what was to come in the game between of what was to come in the game between the Wayne American team against our Pequannock all-stars.
Dylan Steed was the leadoff batter and promptly hit the first pitch for an infield single. The Wayne pitcher threw a floater and Mike Desenzo snapped it right back to their third baseman and he quickly had a double play. Two pitches and two outs, not such a good start for Pequannock, but Tommy Crooks drew a walk and then the hot bats went to work. Anthony Dombrowski had an infield single, Dan Jachera lined a one-hop double to center field and Pequannock had two runs. Tyler Aug became the special pinch runner. After Brandon Davis had a sharp single, Tyler scored all the way from first. Brandon quickly stole second as Adam Curich promptly lined a single and Davis scored easily. Tommy Ackershoek walked and Andy Carlon took a hard swing for a third strike, but Pequannock had another long inning resulting in four runs. The starting battery for Pequannock was Tommy Crooks and Andy Carlon. They were extremely efficient with Andy calling the pitches and Tommy only throwing 17 times.
Liam Corbutt led off the second with an infield single. Michael Desenzo made up for the double play in the first inning with a walk. Crooks lined a double and Liam scored. Up came Anthony for the second time, and the "hot" bat continued. Anthony swung at a high pitch, his bat was aimed up and he drove the rawhide for a thunderous three run home run. There was no doubt about this hit as the whole Pequannock team met a SMILING Anthony cross the plate. One out later, (Doug Wilson), Derek Nelson's announcer-given name, had an infield single and was standing on second after a wild pitch. Mike Van Duyne hit a looping liner that the Wayne second baseman caught at the last second preventing another Pequannock run. Tommy "Aftershock" Ackershoek created another rumbling with a tremendous triple easily scoring Derek Nelson. After a strikeout, Pequannock raised the lead to 9-0.
Tommy Crooks had a great bottom of the second, as he threw 13 pitches, recorded two strikeouts and retired the side in order.
The third inning saw Pequannock send eight batters to the plate with three more runs being scored and five different players having singles to account for a 12-0 lead. The bottom of the third saw Pequannock's big "D" again with Brandon Davis making two outstanding plays and Anthony Dombrowski contributing with a sharp bang-bang play at third throwing the batter out easily.
Corey Bond came to the plate in the fourth inning and worked a walk after being down in the count. Pequannock couldn't provide any more offense for the evening as they were retired quickly. The bottom of the fourth saw Wayne score a run, but Tommy struck out two batters and caught a sizzling liner to end the inning. The final score was Pequannock 12, Wayne American 1. Girls 10's District Tournament: Pequannock 21, Pompton Lakes/Riverdale 0 - 4 Inning
By Brian Spring
The Pequannock girls' bats were as hot as the weather today as they registered 17 hits against PLR pitching. After a first inning walk issued to Carly Hausleben and a single by Jonnalyn McClain in which Hausleben was throw out at second, Kellyann McClain stepped up to the plate and with the count at 3-1, ripped a triple to center field, scoring her sister. With a combination of stolen bases, walks issued to Taylor Tabakman and Dana Scillieri, and a single by Alyssa Lobosco, Pequannock scored four runs in the first inning.
Hailey McGlynn led off the second with a sharp groundout to third base. After a walk was issued to Hausleben, J. McClain singled again. Not to be outdone by her little sister, Kellyann McClain launched a fly ball to left and hustled her way all the way around to bases to record Pequannock's first home run of the 10's all-star season. Tabakman followed with a single, and after Lobosco was walked, Rachel Pierson tripled to right-center field. Hausleben also added a double to the hit list. Pequannock tallied seven runs in their half of the second inning.
The third inning saw hits by Taylor Cucci, Lobosco, Pierson, Hausleben and Caroline Landon. Hausleben came to the plate a second time in the inning and was hit by a pitch. Pequannock scored three runs in this inning.
Pequannock came out in the fourth with their bats at the ready. Singles were recorded by Kaitlyn Natoli, Tabakman, Lobosco, and Scillieri. Melissa Spring, substituting for Jennifer Sigler, was hit by a pitch and was able to score after second singles by Natoli and Tabakman. Pequannock sent seven runners across the plate to finish up their fourth inning.
Four Pequannock pitchers, Taylor Tabakman, Jonnalynn McClain, Taylor Cucci, and Dana Scillieri combined for six strikeouts in an excellent display of pitching. Only two singles were recorded by PLR batters in four innings. Pequannock's defense prevented PLR from sending any runners across the plate. PLR threatened to score in the second with bases loaded. Third baseman Alyssa Lobosco fielded a ground ball and threw out the third base runner who was trying to score against catcher Rachel Pierson.
The Pequannock girls 10's play Monday, July 21, against the winner of PLR and Clifton American. If Pequannock can win this game, the girls will be District champs!
Thanks to all our fans for coming out to support our girls. They really appreciate it!

Boys Majors Section Tournament: Pequannock 8, River Edge 2 - Section Champions!Pequannock rallies from early deficit and advances to State tournament
By Bill Maier
Clutch hitting and solid team defense is the mark of any good team. After Friday night's performance, it's safe to put a check next to Pequannock.
Pequannock defeated River Edge 8-2 Friday night in Ramsey to finish Sectional play with an unblemished 3-0 record. Anthony Scillieri hit two home runs and Nick Stasiak added a solo shot during Pequannock's defensively sound game. It was a complete team effort by Pequannock as the defense was solid and the hits came from up and down the lineup.
Trailing 2-0 early, Pequannock would tie the game in the bottom of the third. After Cole Maier singled, Anthony Scillieri powered a fastball offering deep into the left-center field crowd. It would be the first of two on the night for Scillieri. Before the Pequannock faithful could settle down, Nick Stasiak displayed some fire power of his own by blasting a solo home run that traveled an estimated 290 feet. It was Pequannock's first lead of the night and one they would not lose. The locals started a two out rally after Danny Ryan legged out an infield hit and Matt Blahut delivered a sharp single to right. However, the runners were left stranded after a good defensive play by the River Edge first baseman.
In the top of the fourth, Vince Fierro helped preserve the lead with a sensational running catch. Fierro, playing in left, sprinted back towards the wall and made a running catch while tumbling through the fence. After back-to-back walks, River Edge looked like they had delivered a game tying single up the middle. The ball, finding holes through Leva and Maier, was fielded by an oncoming Ryan in center. The slick fielder gathered the ball and fired a missle to home. Catcher Joe Koetters, slightly up the third base line, caught the ball and made an acrobatic tag on the runner for the third out of the inning, keeping the score at 3-2.
Pequannock displayed another defensive gem in the fifth. Leva, playing at shortstop, moved to his right and fielded a hard hit ball. Planting his feet, Leva fired a rocket to first for the assist. The final two outs of the inning came on fielders' choices and kept the game at 3-2.
The bats came alive again in the bottom frame. Scillieri would lead off the fifth with his second home run of the night, driving a solo shot, estimated at 275 feet into the right field crowd to give Pequannock a 4-2 lead. Stasiak showcased some speed by beating out an infield single. Vince Fierro followed Stasiak with a scalding hit up the middle. With runners at first and second, Ryan smacked an RBI single to plate Stasiak and increase the lead to 5-2. With runners on second and third and only one out, Koetters, who made a great defensive play earlier in the game, came through with his bat by cranking a single that scored Fierro and Ryan. With Pequannock up 7-2, Maier came through with his third hit of the game, this time lacing an RBI double to score Koetters, making it 8-2.
In the top of the sixth, Pequannock would continue to flash the leather. With one out and one on, River Edge sent a ball to the right-center field gap. Blahut, playing in right, played the ball perfectly and made a spectacular running catch just short of the fence. Pequannock's strong defense throughout the game helped keep River Edge's scoring to a minimum. Leva would come on in relief of Scillieri and record the final out on a strikeout. Scillieri finished the game with 5 and 2/3 innings pitched, striking out four.
Pequannock's next game will be in the State Tournament Friday night in Bergenfield at 8:00 p.m.
Boys 11's District Tournament: Pequannock 7, Tri Boro 1 - District Champions!
By Steve Hanes
Throughout the Tournament, Pequannock put on a hitting display that was truly astonishing outscoring opponents by a 57-3 margin. Fielding has also been close to perfect, and tonight, it was the defense that really made the difference in a very tense game.
In true Pequannock fashion, the boys jumped into an early lead in the top of the first. Chris Coppola drew a walk and quickly stole second just waiting for a hit to bring him home. With two outs, TJ McGovern stepped in and scorched one off the left center wall missing a home run by inches, scoring Coppola.
Pequannock took the field with Alex Diffin on the hill. A leadoff walk, fielder’s choice, and stolen base later, Tri Boro had a runner on second with one out. Diffin reared in and smoked three strikes past a big-swinging number three hitter. The cleanup batter dug in and jumped on a fast ball launching a high fly to right. Mark Gallo tracked the ball perfectly helping his team get out of the inning with no damage.
In the second, Pequannock hitters kept the second baseman from Tri Boro busy. After back to back groundouts to second, Anthony Rosano laced a hard grounder perfectly placed between third and short for a single. He was left stranded after another groundout to second.
Tri Boro’s bats came alive in the second half of the frame. Three hits erased Pequannock’s lead tying the game at 1-1. With two men on, up came the leadoff batter whose bat has been red hot. The count was worked to 3-2, and he hit a laser to center. Anthony Rosano made it look easy, reeling it in for the third out.
Pequannock hit the ball hard, but once again struggled getting it out of the infield in the third. Tri Boro’s pitcher battled hard scooping up two hard hit shots back to the box. Vince Parrotta reached safely with a two out single, but was left on base on a grounder to third.
With Tri Boro back up, Alex Diffin quickly went to work helping himself with a one-pitch, 1-3 put out. A walk later brought up the number four batter with a runner on. Crack! A towering fly brought gasps from the Pequannock fans as the ball soared into left field. Jeff Dericks had it all under control, settled under it, and made the catch. A hard grounder to Travis Lubba at short ended the inning with a 6-3 putout.
In the fourth, both Pequannock and Tri Boro went down 1-2-3. Griffin Lubba took control in the field for Pequannock snagging back-to-back high pops at second. TJ McGovern ended the fourth with one of his own at first.
Through four innings, the score was 1-1. Pequannock and Tri Boro each recorded just three hits, made ten plays in the field, and posted two strikeouts. The game was literally all even in a good old-fashion pitcher’s duel. It was time for the Pequannock bats to come alive. With one out in the top of the fifth, Alex Diffin was selective at the plate working himself a walk to get things started. Brett Dericks, Chris Coppola, and Vince Parrotta hit consecutive singles. A TJ McGovern walk and two more singles by Jeff Dericks and Anthony Hanes put four runs across for Pequannock giving them a 5-1 advantage. They had recaptured the lead in commanding fashion and headed back into the field.
Tri Boro went down quietly in the fifth thanks to Stanley Wisniewski on a hot shot to left, a liner gobbled up by Vince Parrotta at third, and a delivered called third strike by Alex Diffin.
Pequannock posted a few insurance runs in the sixth with singles by Alex Diffin, Chris Coppola, Vince Parrotta, Jeff Dericks, and a sacrifice fly to left by TJ McGovern, extending the lead to 7-1.
To end the game, Tri Boro was retired with two strikeouts and a fly out to center caught by Anthony Rosano. Alex Diffin pitched a gutsy 5 and 2/3 innings, striking out four. Stanley Wisniewski took the mound in relief striking out the last batter.
Pequannock's next game will be in the Section Tournament Thursday night at Kiwanis Field in Roxbury at 7:00 p.m.

Boys 10's District Tournament: Pequannock 8, Tri Boro 0
Defense, pitching and patience.
By Ronald Hogan
On this cool moonlit night, Pequannock was the home team for the first time in the District tournament. Corey “007” Bond took the mound for Pequannock and he quickly struck out the first batter. Tri Boro’s next hitter lined a shot to right center and it looked like a sure double, but Dylan Steed had different plans. Moving like he was shot from a cannon, Dylan made a running catch that would have pleased even Willie Mays. The strike out and catch set the tone for the Pequannock team the rest of the night, Even though the next hitter singled, Tri Boro left him stranded with a popup to Tommy Crooks. The Tri Boro pitcher, though, worked a very efficient inning only allowing one base runner and the inning ended with no score. This was the first time that Pequannock did not score a run in the first inning in the tournament.
The top of the second saw Tri Boro’s first batter hit a screaming line drive, but Dan Jachera was off at the crack of the bat. While going to his right made a spectacular catch preventing an extra base hit. “007” only allowed a single two batters later and got the last batter to pop out to Pequannock’s third baseman. Dan Jachera led off the inning with a sharp single. Tri Boro’s pitcher threw a wild pitch and Danny was on second, Corey moved him over to third with a sacrifice. Adam Curich drew a walk and quickly took second. Andy Carlon hit a laser shot down the first base line, but the Tri Boro first baseman made a great catch and ended Pequannock’s hopes of scoring.
Bond got the first two batters out easily and recorded his second strikeout. He then hit the third batter and Tri Boro had a man on first with two out. Despite being hit, Tri Boro’s runner stole second. The next batter smashed a line drive down the first base line, with the runner going at full speed, Tommy Crooks handled the ball and being in “no man’s land” had no play at first, but saw the runner barreling full steam towards home plate. Crooks threw to Andy Carlon, who made the run saving tag in a tight play, as the umpire called the runner out. Three outs on three outstanding defensive plays in three innings.
Pequannock truly had the momentum going on the field, now it was time for the bats to take over. Liam Corbutt was the leadoff batter in an exciting inning, but the Tri Boro pitcher was hot and had Liam and Michael Desenzo ground out quickly on two pitches. Things started to change when Tommy Crooks walked. Then, Tri Boro had a pitching change, and before he could get settled, Anthony Dombrowski had a single. Now with two men on, Pequannock’s coaches sent Tyler Aug to the plate as a pinch hitter. Tyler had a quick strike and then a wild pitch, both runners advanced and now Pequannock had its second threat of the night. Tyler worked the pitcher to a full count and calmly took ball four to load the bases. That walk with the full count really set the tone for future Pequannock hitters. Derek Nelson, following Tyler’s example of patience and also worked a full count before hitting an infield single between the pitcher and shortstop which resulted in Pequannock’s first run and the bases were still loaded. Corey followed suit and drew another walk after a full count and now it’s 2-0. Dylan Steed was put in a special runner for Tyler. Michael Van Duyne worked the pitcher deep into the count again and was safely on first with another walk and the home team’s fourth run. Finally, Tri Boro worked out of this jam, but Pequannock had a 4-0 lead.
Tri Boro started the fourth inning with two straight hits and a walk. Now with the bases loaded and no outs, Corey Bond, really did a “007” and got the next batter to strike out, the following batter grounded meekly to Corey for a force out at home and then the next hitter struck out ending the inning. Pequannock continued to play “smart ball” by using three walks, a sacrifice bunt, and three wild pitches to extend their lead to 6-0.
Corey struck out the first batter that he faced to start the fifth, but Tri Boro hit two-straight singles. The fourth hitter for Tri Boro smacked a solid shot to right field and the runner on second was off with hit. Dan Jachera fielded the ball in the gap and made an unbelievable throw to home plate. The base runner took a high leap to try to avoid Andy Carlon, but it was a futile as Andy had the ball in his glove and tagged the runner as he was “falling from the sky”. “You’re out”, shouted the umpire and it was Pequannock’s fourth “fielding gem” of the game. Pequannock was efficient again in obtaining two more runs, with Corey Bond walking, going to second on a wild pitch. Adam Curich driving him home with a hard hit single. After Curich reached second on another wild pitch, Tommy Ackershoek drew another walk and got to second when the catcher held onto the ball too long. Michael Desenzo also walked and Tommy Crooks had an infield single and then Brandon Davis hit a flaring fly ball, which appeared to be dropping in for a base hit, but the Tri Boro outfielder made a running catch to end the inning
In the sixth inning, Corey struck out two more batters before giving way to Tommy Crooks. Crooks got the last Tri Boro man to strike out to finish Pequannock’s best played game of the tournament.
The lads and coaches really do appreciate the support of the fans that have come out and hope that the word spreads to fill the stands even more on Friday night at 7:00 p.m against the Wayne American team. GO PEQUANNOCK!

Boys Majors Section Tournament: Pequannock 7, River Edge 5
Pequannock one win from State tournament
By Bill Maier
Pequannock did its best to imitate the temperature on Wednesday afternoon in Ramsey. The 12U all-stars stayed hot and defeated a pesky River Edge team 7-5. Cole Maier battled the heat and tossed four innings while allowing only two earned runs. Matt Amore closed the door on River Edge by pitching the final two innings.
Maier initiated an early hit parade by leading off the game with a sharp single into left. Michael Leva followed with a bloop hit over third base. With runners on first and second and one out, Nick Stasiak continued his hot hitting and gave Pequannock a 1-0 lead by launching a rocket that smashed into the left field fence. Two batters later, Danny Ryan strolled to the plate with two on and two out. Ryan roped a double into the right field corner, scoring Leva and Stasiak to give Pequannock a 3-0 advantage. Matt Blahut would follow with a clutch base hit to right to plate their fourth run.
Leva would add to Pequannock's lead in the second by delivering a solo shot to left, increasing the lead to 5-0.
In the fifth, Pequannock got two more insurance runs that turned out to be crucial. After Leva was hit by a pitch, Stasiak turned on an 0-1 fastball and sent it into orbit for his second home run in as many games.
Vince Fierro flashed the leather for Pequannock, making a key running catch with men aboard that put an end to a River Edge rally.
With bases full of River Edge players in the fifth, Steven Spatucci bailed Pequannock out of trouble by making a critical defensive play. Spatucci, lunging to his left, snagged a line drive and fired a bullet to first to double up the runner.
Pequannock will next play on Friday night at 7:00 p.m. in Ramsey for the Section title.

Boys 10's District Tournament: Pequannock 18, Tri Boro 13
By Ronald Hogan
The fourth game of the District 2 series pitted Tri Boro against our young men of Pequannock, Tuesday night, under the lights. The fans from Pequannock filled the third base side and there was standing room only. During the player introductions, each player touched home plate and either tipped their cap or waved at the crowd which brought about various cheers and applause.
Pequannock led off the first inning, and quickly with Dylan Steed and Michael Desenzo smashing doubles to right field, “painting the line” and Pequannock had a quick lead. Tommy Crooks drew a walk and Anthony Dombrowski hit a looping single to drive in one run. Anthony took advantage of the outfielder’s throw and advanced to second with Crooks on third. Dan Jachera grounded out but Tommy scored to add a third run. When Brandon Davis was hit by pitcher, the coaching staff inserted Tommy Ackershoek, as a special pinch runner. He quickly stole second and then Anthony Dombrowski scored sliding home on wild pitch and Tommy advanced to third. At the plate stood, Adam Curich, who promptly hit a slow roller between the pitcher and the first baseman. With the ensuing throw, “Ace” and the Tri Boro first baseman collided and Curich was called safe when Tri Boro dropped the ball. Meanwhile Ackershoek scored. Tri Boro then pulled off a quick double play and Pequannock had five runs tallied. Liam Corbutt started for Pequannock and Tri Boro used several ways to score against Pequannock’s defense, which looked tentative and at the end of the first inning, the score was 6-5 in favor of Tri Boro.
In the top of the second, after the first batter was retired, Pequannock used another “painting the line” opposite field hit, again by Dylan Steed as he found first base easily. After another ground ball out, Tommy Crooks then hit a one-hop double. On with men on second and third, Anthony Dombrowski came through again, this time with a bases-clearing single. Pequannock ended the top of the second with a 7-6 lead. Tri Boro, again, used a walk, stolen base, and a single to manufacture another run, but Liam pitched out of the inning with two strikeouts, giving him a total of over two innings. The game was knotted at 7-7 and it looked like Tri Boro was not going to give up without a tussle.
The Pequannock team has an uncanny way to put together big run producing innings and the third inning was a fine example. Derek Nelson started off by working the pitch count back in his favor and eventually walked. Tommy Ackershoek then doubled and Liam helped his cause by driving in both batters and Pequannock was up by two. Then the coaching staff inserted Adam Curich as their second special runner of the night. Before you knew it, Ace was off stealing second in a flash. After two wild pitches, Pequannock had another run. With Dylan Steed walking, Michael Desenzo reached first on a throwing error, giving Dylan the chance to score. Crooks had an RBI single, and Dombrowski had a third hit in three times at bat and drove in another run. Tri Boro got out of the inning by getting the last two batters out, but Pequannock had taken a 13-7 lead.
Liam Corbutt worked the bottom of the third in fine style including another striking out.
Again, Pequannock’s “Big Blue Machine” sent nine batters to the plate and scored four more runs giving them a 17-7 lead. Hits by Tommy Ackershoek, Tommy Crooks, Anthony Dombrowski, with walks from Dylan Steed and Michael Desenzo in between those hits, along with a stolen base from Corey Bond highlighted the inning. It looked like they just might close the door on Tri Boro. The home team used bunts, singles and walks to get right back into the contest scoring four runs themselves. When the inning ended, the scored favored Pequannock by six, 17-11, but the tension was mounting on both sides of the field.
The fifth inning saw Pequannock load the bases but score only one run with a walk as the Tri Boro pitchers worked their way out of a jam. In the bottom half of the fifth, Pequannock had a call reversed at first base by the umpire and with the aid of two base hits, Tri Boro scored two runs. With Mike Desenzo on the mound, though, Pequannock shut the door on Tri Boro. Now the lead was down to five with the score being 18-13. This game was taking its toll on both teams and fans.
Tri Boro using its fourth pitcher of the night finally got Pequannock to go down quietly by having all three batters ground out. Even though Tri Boro scored a run in the bottom half of the sixth, Pequannock’s bench and fans saw Derek Nelson make a fine play at second, Liam Corbutt capture a fly ball on the run and Mike Densenzo throw out the last batter for a hard-earned victory. There were plenty of smiles and sighs of relief from team and fans alike on this night.
The team and coaches, again, want to thank all of the fans for coming out and supporting this fine team.
Boys 11's District Tournament: Pequannock 16, Ringwood 1
By Steve Hanes
Pequannock’s offensive bombardment continued on Tuesday night against Ringwood. With two outs in the first Vinny Parrotta cracked a single to start things going. This was followed by singles by TJ McGovern and Jeffrey Dericks giving Pequannock an early one run lead.
The doors (and windows) blew open in the second with a six-run slugfest. Reaching base safely were Alex Diffin, Vinny Parrotta, TJ McGovern, Mark Gallo, Chris Coppola, and Travis Lubba.
In the third, Travis Lubba started things off with a single up the middle. Matt Maier put down a perfect sacrifice bunt, out by only a half-step advancing Lubba. Brett Dericks skied a sacrifice fly to right field scoring Lubba.
Pequannock was not done yet. Eight more runs in the fourth put the game way out of reach for Ringwood. Vinny Parrotta and TJ McGovern started the rally with back to back singles. Jeffrey Dericks drew a walk loading the bases. Anthony Hanes stepped up to the plate and laced a one-hopper to the fence in left center scoring two. Right behind him, Chris Coppola smacked a single to left scoring Hanes. Anthony Rosano and Brett Dericks both drew a walk setting the table for Vinny Parrotta’s second at bat of the inning. “That ball is deep to left, it is high, it is far, it is GONE!” Vinny blasted a three-run home run far over the left field fence putting an exclamation point on a truly remarkable display of team offense.
Pequannock’s defense was again perfect in execution. Vinny Parrotta started the game on the hill recording five strikeouts out of six possible outs through two innings. In the third, Ringwood staged their only threat of the game with bases loaded and no outs. Chris Coppola stepped onto the mound and slammed the door shut! Pitching an inning and 2/3’s, he recorded three strikeouts of his own. Travis Lubba entered the game to record the final strikeout of the game.
Pequannock plays for the District Championship on Friday, 7/18, at 7:00 p.m. The boys are ready, and determined to finish this thing off! We would like
